Review – Insurgent by Veronica Roth

I finished this a last week, but I have been so busy that I have only had today to review.

Now you know how much I loved Divergent and they always say ‘the first book is always better than the first’, but I totally disagree they are equal, it didn’t disappoint…

After escaping the wrath of Erudite and its nemesis Jeannie, Tris survived a brutal attack physically and emotionally. Here world is shattering by the day. Now she is running… running from Erudite and Dauntless soldiers and slowly running from herself. As she runs from safe-house to safe-house and factions she becomes more reckless, and there is always repercussions. The consequences of her heart, her family and friends and the sacrifice of her life. Tris’s hope of survival is knowledge…knowledge is the key.

Tris has no home. No faction. No parents and no true identity. She is Divergent. Her divergency is her identity but she has yet to understand her identity. She has an essence of all factions, some more than others and this allows her to reckless, but at what cost. Our protagonist, is brave, reckless, toughing, sacrificial, yet she is unstable of her emotions. Tris character develops throughout the whole book, yet her personality disintegrates. Tris has no control over the destiny of her faction, it not down to her, yet she feels it does. Her sacrifice  repercusses onto everyone else… more specifically Tobias. Her secrets becomes her weakness for those closer to her, yet they are her strength when she devises the attack that could save her shattered world and her heart.

Tobias faces even more challenges in this novel. He faces his fear-landscape for real, not in a simulation. Tobias has co-operate with his abusive father, Marcus, yet he has to face his not-so-dead mother, Evelyn. Evelyn is the head of the factionless, where nobody belongs. At first Tobias becomes very reckless, and single-minded when it comes to his fears, he makes spilt-decisions that has more meaning, than it should. Tobias’s character is very protective of Tris, he loves her so much, he can’t bear to see anything happen to her… Tobias also becomes on a elf-destructive mode and that is what love can do to you. What I admire about Tobias is that is who he is, he’s not Four anymore only for his Dauntless reputation. He reveals himself completely in this novel, he also brings out the best in Tris, brings out her true personality.

Tris and Tobias together have a challenging and rocky road ahead and this is what I love about a Veronica Roth, its just plain-sailing in their relationship. Together they define each other. Separately their definitions becomes the icy patch ahead. Tobias hates when Tris makes and acts on her decisions alone. Tobias is a part of her, Tris is a part of him, they are inseparable. Tris’s single-mindedness triggers the novel. However, you want to wish for them to be perfect, that would be story not life. Nothing is perfect and Veronica’s reflection of that makes you realise that. All you want to do root for them all the way. Their romance makes this YA novel something else, something unique.

What i found compelling about this novel was that there was so many twists, turns, shocks and awes, that you just couldn’t put it down. These are one of the best YA teen dystopian novels that you will ever get to read for so long… Like I said before Veronica Roth has done herself justice for this novel and to create an equally brilliant and aspiring is very hard achieve… If you haven’t read this series then PLEASE do! I just cant wait to see what will become of Tris and Tobias…
