Self-Care for Bookworms – Read in a Coffee Shop

Posted March 9, 2020 by Emma in Bookish Post, Discussion Post, Self-Care for Bookworms / 11 Comments

Hello my bookish friends. How are you? Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was really busy in the end so didn’t do as much self-care or reading than I usually do. I’ve started reading The Flat Share and I’m really enjoying it. But today I’m really excited by this post, after the success of my first Self-Care for Bookworms post, I thought I would continue it with more tips from one bookworm to another.

My first Self-care tip was Taking a break, today’s tip is all about…

Self-Care Tip #2

Go out and take your book with you – specifically in a coffee shop.

If you know me on my instagram you’ll know I’m starting to talk about self-care a lot especially those featuring a certain hot beverage. I love coffee, namely cappuccino usually. So whenever I’m shopping or a walk somewhere I will usually go to a local coffee shop, Costa or Pret and grab myself one to go, especially during the cooler months I enjoy this the most. Summer is usually a cold drink.

But I digress, I love reading in the comfort of my room but if your like me I do tend to get easily distracted by my iPad, tv or my phone or generally the comfort of it. So every Sunday, after I see my grandparents, I will stop off at my local Costa, grab a sweet treat as well and settle in the corner with my book. I might take a few pictures for bookstagram, 😂 but why not,  if it’s busy and noisy I’ll plug myself in and open my book… instantly I feel more relaxed escaping into my book. I’m usually in there for an hour, time just seems to fly but when I leave, it feels good. I wish I could do it everyday.

There is something about a coffee shop, I like the bustle, smell and noise of the coffee machine, you see so many people just going about their day, it’s kind of fascinating. I’m also always curious if there is people like me reading and I want to know what they are reading. I feel part of it, it’s like a library for coffee lovers.

So if you can’t concentrate at home to read, which is me, then take your book out and go to coffee shop. There are other places I read like Kew Gardens or on the beach, but the coffee shop to me is like my second bookish home. I love it.

I’ve started the #coffeereads hashtag on Instagram! So do join me.

Self-Care Tuesday (Instagram)

ALSO… Steph from Bookslovereaders and I are doing Self-Care Tuesday where we switch our notifications off on all of our social media platforms and we just read or spend time with our family for the evening. We feel we are on our phones and social media far to much. I know I am, and when you work full-time you want to just read. We started last Tuesday and it was a success for us. We read loads, I went to the cinema and it really helped us. So every Tuesday from 6pm, we turn off our social media to give us to some self care. Follow us on Instagram to know more.

I hope you enjoyed another Self-Care Post. I have more to come. If you have any suggestions or topics for this blog series. Let me know!

Do you like reading in a coffee shop? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Reading in a coffee shop is one of my favorite things to do when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I need to prioritize some coffee shop time soon.

    • I do it every Sunday if I can after seeing my family and I love! So much reading done too! I love the bustle of a coffee shop too!

        • It might be a little bit hard to find a coffee shop around where I live but still I like the idea! It’s like an ultimate fantasy for me to read books in a coffee shop with a cup of coffee and a peaceful environment. As for now I’ll just make do with my bedroom 😅
