Today I’m doing something a little different. This is my first discussion on a specific topic and today is about Libraries. As you all know I’m a Library Assistant and have been for 2 years now. I’ve always been a member since I was a baby and I grew to be an avid reader and visitor of my local library. But my main question is this…
DO YOU STILL BORROW BOOKS FROM YOUR LIBRARY?
We as bloggers are very lucky to receive ARCs from publishers and digital platforms like Netgalley and Edelweiss, so is there really any point to getting books from a library now? I still do, I love when I reserve a book or even a new book in my own library and I’m the first to read, isn’t that a great feeling. Right now I have 7 books out on loan as well as the many other books I have to read too, but I won’t give up not borrowing them. I always have this thought ‘do I have time for reading them?’ or ‘have I got to many to read?’ Can you really have too many books though?! Hehe.
Just being in a library is like a sanctuary that I return too even on my days off. It brings me happiness and joy, being surrounded by books, and I always want to be the one to turn and say “shhh” to the people talking. I see kids from my years of working their growing up and how they love the library but yet people my age, there is such a drop in teenagers and young adults reading and using the library which is so sad. Do all of you in the UK or anywhere else you may have had something similar, the Summer Reading Challenges? I was the first person every time and now watching from behind the challenge is so different but also inspiring to me.I hope to change that!
Now the CHALLENGE part…. If you chose to accept it!?
I’m thinking of creating a challenge or lib-a-thon to have one/two weeks to try and read all of your borrowed books and tackle that TBR at the same time. Would you want to be a part of this? If so let me know in the comments…. If you have any borrowed books, grab and challenge yourself to finally read them. Continue the legacy of libraries through our blogs.

Since shifting to college I've been using the college library for textbooks but haven't picked up anything else due to time. BUT, I always visit my local library usually and I love it. It does get tough to balance borrowed books and ARCs, though, but best of luck on your challenge Emma! 🙂
I know what you mean. When I was at college it always sucked as I didn't really read a lot what with revising and everything. I think my blog has got me into my library as well as my job of course. 😉 Thanks Keertana! 🙂
Definitely. In fact, I just went there today to pick up some books I had put on hold 🙂 I think it's really convenient, especially how much we read-it would get so expensive without the library. Plus it allows me to read things I wouldn't have read otherwise. The challenge does sound fun-and productive. I think I have six books out right now and the challenge would be great motivation 😀
Oh definitely. I tend to reserve the ones I haven't read before, don't receive ARCs from or an older series I haven't read before. I know what you mean. Great, thanks so much for your thought, Alise! 🙂
I wish my library had books in English so I could borrow books, it'd be better for my TBR pile for sure since I'd feel a different pressure to the one from just buying a book and knowing it'll be there whenever I feel like reading it!
I adored the library when I was younger, it was super important for me during primary school & middle school!
Oh yes that would be better…I love seeing it day in and day out knowing if I don't get time to read it then I can pick it up again without any added pressure. Libraries will always be a huge part of my growing and life.
Yes – I still borrow from the library, I love placing holds on books I have been meaning to read for a while, or new releases that are out. It definitely is a great feeling to be the first to read them, but I hate it when I find stains and stuff in a book 🙁 really puts me off and appalled that people can deface someone's property like that.
Me too. I tend to reserve so many on hold and love to be the ones to first get them as well. Oh I have seen some things working in a library and stains is only beginning, believe me. It's horrible to see them so damaged and defaced.
I actually can't remember the last time I hit up the library but it definitely has been a while. I always look at some books and say 'I think this one is a library read, I'll pick it up than' but I haven't actually gone and picked them up at the library in years. I know what you mean. I tend to reserve books that I see in shops that I'm not really sure is worth buying when I can read it for free. Oh that's great, well I hope you can join me in the challenge. Thanks Lily! 🙂 xx
I rarely use my library card anymore…although I did recently use it to check out VICIOUS by VE Schwab (since I missed my chance to get a review copy). I keep meaning to use it more, though! I'd definitely be interested in the challenge.

Yup I love my library, currently have 8 books out right now. I never gave it enough credit in the past that it would have the new releases I want to read but I've had to eat my words recently when I've spotted a few 🙂
That's true they do seem to have more new releases lately. Especially in YA which isn't hugely popular in my library. I'm so glad you love your library! Spread the love of the library! 😉
I LOVE going to my library, it's such a wonderful place to be. Unfortunately, I rarely go there these days because I mostly read English books and they don't have a huge variety of them. I'm so jealous at those who live in an English speaking country. The thing I don't like in the library I'm going is how much money I have to pay when I forget to bring the books back in time. Even after one day they cost a lot! And believe me when I say that I rarely realize my mistake after one day. I know it's my fault because I'm the forgetful one but I just wish it wouldn't cost that much.
