Hello my lovely readers and welcome to my first review in months I think. Whoops. The last few months I’ve really struggled with the motivation to read, hence the lack of review posts. But this particular book that I’m writing my review for took me 3 weeks or so to read and a further month to review as I really did have a blogging break. But felt I really needed to review it. So before I go into my review I wanted to say that whilst it took me that long to read, it didn’t in any way effect my review.

So thank you to The Write Reads for letting me be part of the #UltimateBlogTour for The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Thank you to Dave, who is so understanding as well and gave me the time to review it in my own time rather than to my date. Sorry for the rant, I will now get on to my review of The Inheritance Games.

Mini Book Review

One day Avery Grambs is living in her car, the next she has been requested to the will reading of a multi-billionaire, Tobias Hawthorne. With four brothers, Hawthorne’s grandsons, all in with the expectation to receive his inheritance it comes as a shock when Tobias left his entire estate and everything in it to a Avery, a nobody. Each of the grandsons and her, gets a letter from Tobias, and when she slowly gets to know one of the brothers Jamieson, she realises that this is more than just inheritance, this is a game, something that Tobias liked to do a lot. Avery wants to know why her, so she starts to unpick the riddles and clues scattered around Hawthorne House. But with being an instant celebrity, there is bound to be some tension and scheming that will put her life in danger.

I really loved Avery’s realistic character, she has backbone and takes no prisoners type of persona that really fitted on some deeper level with the brothers, she had her own troubles just like the brothers. There’s an undeniable attraction between them and her that you absolutely adore. When I raced through the last half of the book, it reminded me of films like a modern day National Treasure plot line. When you encounter the first clue and think, ‘it’s them!’ and the next page that idea has completely diminished. I loved the idea of Hawthorne’s clues in his letters to each of them. He prepared the brothers for this as he had throughout their childhood, but to Avery this is another mystery to be solved, her mum used to say ‘I have a secret’, could this have anything to do with her father and the Hawthorne’s?!

I first loved Jennifer’s books back with The Naturals, again a racing and compelling YA mystery novel that I couldn’t put down. So it was no mistaking the fact that I would love this book. This book is addictive through and through and with a superb cast of characters and four very hot brothers, it’s hard not keep turning the pages and solving the riddles. If you love anything by Karen McManus or Holly Jackson then you will love this. Also the ending… there’s more and I can’t wait for book 2.

Rating – 4.5
