Self-Care for Bookworms – whilst staying at home

Posted April 8, 2020 by Emma in Booked-In, Bookish Post, Discussion Post, Self-Care for Bookworms / 3 Comments

Morning my fellow bookworms. I hope you are all well and not getting too stressed. I’ve been really enjoying doing my self-care posts and I think now more than ever we really need to look after ourselves. Today I’m excited to bring you a Booked-In special of my Self-care for Bookworms series. Rather than just one tip, today I will share a few of my bookish and general tips whilst we are staying inside.

Self-Care Tips for Staying Inside

Be surrounded by colour

You know I love bright colours, orange, mustard, yellow – coral in the summer. Those are my go to colours, my bedroom is bright orange and I never spent so much time in it and I love it. My feed on Instagram is bright, bright clothing, eyeliner etc. It makes me so happy and I love it.

Buy Books Online

Just because we have no bookshops at the moment doesn’t mean you can’t get them delivered. Authors need the support now more than ever, Waterstones, local indie’s, Tesco, Amazon, they are still selling books. So make yourself treat yourself with a book.

Time to yourself – in your room

So I may not have a coffee shop to go to, but being in a household, whilst I love everyone in it, you do need that separation. To read, to watch Netflix or to listen to music. Buy a new reading chair, or in my case my new desk chair and relax, switch off for a bit and imagine your somewhere else.

Read some comfort reads

…Or something that requires not much concentration. I’ve found whilst I have all this time I don’t seem to be reading all that much more. Which is annoying. But reading what I fancy or my comfort reads now more than ever is what I need.

Start the day like any other…

Set yourself a routine, get dressed and put full make-up on like normal. I do, feel good in yourself and you’ll have a much better day.

Do something different…

Try a new hobby or do more of the ones you haven’t done in ages. I love drawing, painting, but also my Nintendo Switch. Animal Crossing is very popular and I hope to do that soon, but I’ve been doing my Adventure Fit, alongside my walks to keep me active, but in a fantasy world. I love it!

Set yourself tasks too, like building a new desk, decluttering my room, changing my books around… just keep me busy. I love my new desk, it’s where I do all of my blog posts. I’m also perfecting my own cappuccino skills with no coffee shop around either.

DANCE, SING, BE HAPPY…

Get up and sing or dance around. Think of the happiest things in your life and what you will do when all this is over. Think on the little things and just smile!

Tell me your Self-care tip whilst staying in? What have you done to relax in these strange times.

  1. The “surround yourself with color” tip is so simple but so effective. As someone that lives with her parents and is surrounded by black, white, and red all day (because they decorated the house in those colors), my white and pink room is my safe place.

    • I love it. I’ve had an orange room all my life and I’ve always loved it. But much more now than ever. When I move house I making sure orange is part of the decor.

  2. Love the “surround yourself with colours” tip! It’s effective to liven up your mood especially during challenging times like right now. And I love listening to songs and dance around in my room (alone of course hahahah). Makes me feel happy all the time!
