LGBTQ+ Bucket Book List

Posted June 20, 2019 by Emma in Discussion Post, LGBTQ+, Summer Reading, YA / 1 Comment

So this is a first for me to write a post on LGBTQ+ books. It’s come to my attention I haven’t read enough of them! Why you might ask? I guess as a reader I’ve been stuck in my ways a bit with what genre books I read. Before I was blogger I used to read cute contemporary romances this was like 12 years ago. Then as a blogger I’ve developed my love for fantasy and I can’t stop reading them. Then there is me not only a reader but a librarian too. My pupil librarians love anything I read and they really love any books to do with Pride. Over the 3 years I’ve really tried to promote and add loads of new books to this genre. It might also be because I have Simon James Green coming to my school next week. Very excited. So in light of this I’m creating myself a LGBTQ+ bucket booklist. Books that I need to read, there is no time limit but I would love to read at least half of these by the end of the year.

This list will be on my sidebar of the blog for me to keep track. These books below were recommended from readers and bloggers across Twitter and Instagram – thank you so much. In no particular order…

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman (anything by her)

Alex in Wonderland by Simon James Green – CURRENTLY READING

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (aka Love, Simon) by Becky Albertalli

Birthday by Meredith Russo

What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

All the Invisible Things by Orlagh Collins

Noah Can’t Even and Noah Could Never by Simon James Green

Speaking of PRIDE – did you see Lucy Powrie author of the amazing The Paper and Hearts Society has released the title of her new book. If you haven’t read The Paper and Hearts Society – YOU NEED TOO! Find out more about book 2 title reveal here.

AND as a librarian if you haven’t seen on my twitter, I’m very proud of this display that I’ve created for Pride month.

So this is my beginners list on LGBTQ+ book bucket list and I’m excited. So if you have any more recommendations for me, I would love to know you favourite LGBTQ+ reads or ones your looking forward too in the comments.
