A Bookworm’s Guide to going on Holiday

Posted August 19, 2019 by Emma in Bookish Post, Featured / 3 Comments

A couple of weeks I went on holiday to Wales, UK. I had such an amazing time. The weather was most certainly an interesting combination of rain, wind and sun. But that is quite the norm I understand in that part of the UK. But to be honest when you book a holiday you just go with the weather, it’s place away from home, a place to relax to reconnect with life.

After returning on holiday I found myself being quite the bookworm on holiday even when I didn’t have my bookshelves. I admit I read more than I have had on holiday I read 1 and half books but enjoyed very moment when on the beach or in my reading nook. The book I completed was:

Under a Dancing Star by Laura Wood – Review to come this week.

And I started Take a Chance On Me by Beth Garrod. It’s clear to me you that you can take the girl away from her books, but you can’t take the books away from the girl.

So I thought I would put a little guide together and especially some essentials you need for every bookworm going on holiday.

  1. Reserve a corner of your suitcase for your books. – That’s essential.
  2. Pick your TBR, take a selection – Picking my books is the first and hardest thing to do more than my own clothes for the week. I ALWAYS over bring too many books. But I don’t have my bookshelves so I need a selection. Maybe even bring your Kindle. I do just in case.
  3. Pick your niche of books – I love contemporary and summery books is just what I like on holiday, nothing overly complicated or long.
  4. Research bookshops in your holiday location – I was pleased to know that there was 4 bookshops and 2 comic shops – each got a visit from me. I love supporting independent bookshops wherever I go.
  5. Bring a notebook – write your review notes down and ideas for blog post. When your relaxed your creative juices are flowing.
  6. Find your reading nook – I already reserved my spot to read when I booked the apartment.
  7. BRING SUNCREAM – you probably think this is an odd one, but believe me the weather forecast for Wales was rain all week, so I packed for that – so no suncream. But with the weather it changed drastically to sunny. Yay you say, but I was so engrossed in my book for 3 hours, time passed and my legs turned a very tomato red.
  8. Take holiday bookstagrams – I love my theme but having a break and showing how relaxed you are refreshes your feed a bit, I feel.
  9. Take your book EVERYWHERE – you don’t know when you might have a sit down or in a cafe.
  10. HAVE AN AMAZING HOLIDAY!!!!

What are your top tips as a bookworm on holiday? I’d love to know your bookish habits on holiday.

  1. Love this post!! I definitely agree with these tips, especially the part about researching what bookshops will be in the area. So many books on my shelves are ones that I’ve bought while traveling or on holiday, and I know I’ll never be able to get rid of them for that reason 🙂

  2. I absolutely adore this post! Such good tips to take forward for when I go on holiday! I totally agree with saving space for books or just taking a separate bag for them 😍

  3. I love this!! Admittedly I haven’t actually been away for a while but planning which books to take is always the best part of the holiday. Good idea about the notebook – not sure I’ve been away since becoming a reviewer so probably wouldn’t have thought of that. Great post!
