Hello Everyone, I’m back from my Christmas break yesterday and I had such an an amazing time with my family. It was also more like a Christmas Reading Retreat too. I read 3 books in 5 days which is a first in a very long time. 2 of which are Harry Potter books and another a hotly anticipated 2020 release. It was so nice being totally away from my social media and blog for 5 straight days that I feel amazing in myself and ready to plan 2020 with lots more books and lots more blog posts – I think this could be an idea of a post for 2020.
Now onto this post. I can’t believe I’m actually writing this post. We are at the end of 2019 has is that possible. Each Wrap up post the famous line is always ‘ where has {insert month} gone’ and now I’m writing my last post of 2019 all about my favourite reads.
Completing my Goodreads Goal
Over Christmas break I also got the confetti on the Goodreads app. My first time in a long time to complete my Goodreads goal. Every year I was setting it quite high to get me motivated to read, but then I got really disheartened when I had a slump and didn’t make it. So I set it to a reasonable goal and I made it yay! 2020 will be my year to beat it even more. I have loads of reading plans to come.
A Phenomenal Year of Books
I always find it hard to sum up a year. I have to say that 2019 has been a phenomenal year of books, there hasn’t been many that that have been rated less than a 3 star. I’ve had over …… 5 star books. At first I thought it was me being an easy rater but I was talking on Twitter about this and if it really is worth that rating to you then you haven’t rated wrong at all. I’ve clearly had an amazing year with books which make me so incredibly happy but supper hard to create a list of favourite reads. So I will not restrict to just 10 I can never do that. So without further ado these are my favourite books of the year, in no particular order… I will add the links to each and a brief line to describe how much this book meant to me. I hope you enjoy!
Kick the Moon by Muhammed Khan
Viper by Bex Hogan
Summer Bird Blue Akemi Dawn Bowman
An emotional book, that really did bring me to tears. Grief and trying to regain yourself, trying to find who you are again.
The Boy Who Steals Houses by C.G. Drews
Own voices YA. Expressing and talking about autism something very close to my heart. It has a lot of emotional layers and it’s not the easiest read but it is powerful.
The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie
Our very own Lucy and her debut book. I loved this book and it was one I really want to hug all the time. As you can see from my header I’m being my inner Tabby!
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
A book I randomly picked up in a bookstore. I wanted something totally different, expanding my reading from YA. A Russian, beautiful fairytale and a trilogy I devoured this year.
A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson
UKYA Thriller of the year. An absolute cracking novel from debut novelist Holly Jackson. A book you simply can’t forget. Chilling and modern. Sequel will be out next year. YAY.
Under and Dancing Star by Laura Wood
American Royals by Katherine McGee
Secrets, Scandal, Forbidden Love, Duty and Loyalty. It’s Gossip Girl meets the Royal Family. It’s a delicious book that you can’t get enough of. One of my favourites from Katharine and I can’t wait for more.
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
A book that everyone was raving about for months. A story of blazing glory of rebellion, justice, identity and love. This diverse, own-voices YA book is a stunning, kick-ass tribute to be who you are, embrace your identity and facing oppression.
The Places I’ve Cried in Public by Holly Bourne
I have my favourite reads post of 2019, who am I if I didn’t put one of my favourite authors on here. Holly teared me apart with this book.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely & A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
Well, this book! A fandom I was very aware of this year but didn’t really read it until last month with the #Cursebreakers readalong. I also just finished its sequel a few days ago. It’s an absolute stunning of a retelling and series that I can’t get enough of. Look out for my review of AHSFAB in the new year.
Glad you had a relaxing vacation! The Bear and the Nightingale trilogy is one of my favorite of all time, such a cozy read!!
