Happy Friday my lovely bookworms. It’s so close to the weekend and may bank holiday for us in the UK. Three days of relaxing and reading and I can’t wait.
Last week I started a mini feature on the blog, inspired by World Book Day ‘You are a Reader’, it got my thinking about my reading journey. Last week’s post you traveled back to where it all begun ‘ The Books that shaped me as a reader – The Early Years’ and this week I am back with the next part to my reading journey. If you can guess from the blog title there is a huge hint as to what really dominated my reading at the time. I really loved writing this post, oh the nostalgia of Twilight is very real.
Welcome to the ‘Twilight’ Years – the obsession!
- Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
- Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
- House of Night by P.C. Cast
- Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine
- The Hollow by Jessica Verday
Can you see a theme here, ahaha. So there was a point after ‘the early years’ to here where I stopped reading for a while, not sure why, maybe I just simply snuggled what to read next. But then when I was in secondary school, Twilight basically the Heartstopper of today, it was all anyone was reading or watching at that point. My Film Tie-In was so battered when it travelled in my school bag, I wish I had a book ouch/sleeve to protect like I do now.
It’s not surprise to my reader of my blog and my instagram that Twilight will forever be the started my true love for reading, it came at a time when I needed it most. It’s my comfort read, my comfort watch (which I have been watching the last week too). I explored the Dark Romance section in Oatakers and finding books just like this, and I read LOADS. I became the reader I am because of that book.
I remember getting Vampire Academy as a pre-order incentive for *I think* The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. I was sitting with my feet in the pool and I started reading and couldn’t stop. This is a particular favourite of mine especially Dimitri and Rose.
House of Night and The Morganville Vampires (RIP Rachel Caine) weren’t far behind at all. This was when I feel books were such a good deal, I used to do the BOGOF in WHSmith with House of Night and I was truly addicted to them. Morganville Vampires were a summer holiday binge from The Works that has recently opened. Shane and Claire, my heart! Myrnin and his rabbit slippers. Classic Vampire YA, even now this is getting me all emotionally nostalgic especially when looking at them on my shelf as I am now writing this.
To round it for something a little different, basically not vampires I really enjoyed The Hollow series, set in Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman. Fascinating and there was certainly some dark romance in there too.
So basically in my ‘Twilight’ Years you could definitely say I was an obsessed Teen and you would always find me in the Dark Romance section! 😅 This post is an ode the book that really made me the reader I am today!
