My Thoughts
CAWPILE – 8.14 – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s been a while since I read a Sophie McKenzie book – the last one being Sweetfreak a good few years ago. Both times are when I have met Sophie as part of an author event I arranged at work. I think it’s about time I read more of her books, as I absolutely love them and they ALWAYS get me out of a reading slump.
I adore YA mysteries as every single one is always different and I love how much of page turner they always are. I never tire of them. When I picked up this book I had no expectations, no clue of the story but lets just say I found this to be a very unique and twisty YA thriller.
The main character Maya is basically stuck between a rock and hard place in this book. Her gran has given her a summer job within her business, her uncle has given her this big responsibility of marketing her own product which she is loving. Then she makes friends with a strange, maybe a little cute guy, Bare, who’s part of the eco group that dead set (pun intended) on bringing her Grandma’s business down for dumping chemical waste. I hated how she was telling lie upon lie even to protect her family but you know what they say, ‘you can run with a lie but you can’t hide from the truth’ and that’s exactly it! Lies will always catch you out eventually and all you wanted to know was how it will end for everyone!
I’ve always enjoyed Sophie’s writing and once again I thoroughly enjoyed this thrilling and riveting YA.
I would highly recommend and from watching and listening her author talk, I loved how her latest book is always her favourite and I really want to read Girl, Missing as well. Have you read that?
Thank you to Simon & Schuster for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
