Hello my lovely readers. Happy Thursday evening – I hope everyone is staying cool. I am so very glad it’s the weekend tomorrow!
Today I thought I would bring you a series review for a change. The last month or so I have devoured the Heartstopper series both reading them then watching them and then reading them so more. I have absolutely loved it so so much and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long.
Most of you would have read Heartstopper I’m sure, I felt like I was the last one in the world that hadn’t read them. Then when I wanted too Vol 1 was sold out everywhere! Typical, but I did get it and I bought the next and the next and the next.
Whilst so many love Heartstopper for its cute romance between Charlie and Nick, there is so much more to it. I felt every volume had a message, they each had a personal hurdle to overcome – from understanding who you, what you identify as, dealing with homophobia in a school environment which can be the worst. Dealing with it in an all boys school, bullying just like Charlie suffered with. Friendships – I adored Nick’s circle of friends, especially Tao and Elle, oh and Tara and Darcy too. Darcy is hilarious, I love how outgoing she is. Isn’t afraid of who she is.
Personally working in a school myself, this book is so accurate and especially as I work in an all girls and all boys school, the school life, it’s a lot harder than a mixed school. The status quo is completely different. But whilst I love that it touched upon very hard topics and Alice did it in such a realistic that I know why this book speaks to them or in my case is a comfort read. I could honestly hug this book all the time. I love how damn cute it is.
I have to ask – who is your favourite character? Mine has to be Nick for me. Whilst Charlie is already out, I loved seeing Nick’s story develop from the beginning especially loved him more in the Netflix show too.
I will now go onto the tv show very briefly…
Heartstopper – A Netflix Adaptation Review
If the question you are asking – should I read or watch first? my answer is ALWAYS READ it first. I felt it made the TV show so so good especially as you will notice how perfect it is. Alice Oseman worked so hard to make her graphic novel masterpiece the most accurate it could be. My question after watching this was why don’t authors work on their tv adaptations more. They sign the rights but if you want it to be as successful you need to be involved all the way to casting, the set which was perfect to the graphic, the graphics – everything. It’s a series that I would watch over and over again. I just loved it! I might have mentioned that once or twice already during this.
Ohh I definitely want to read these books, and now I can’t wait even more!
